The Institute has developed a monoclonal antibody that stops the growth of blood vessels into tumor tissue in a cell culture model. The antibody acts at an integrin receptor, avB3, which is on angiogenic vascular tissue.
As published in Science, human melanoma fragments grown in chick embryos induced new vessels to grow to them in the presence of other antibodies, but only one-third of the new growth was seen in tumor tissue treated with anti-avB3 (p < 0.0001 as compared to other MAbs). ...
