MIT researchers published in Science the identification of a receptor for HDL that mediates selective cholesterol ester uptake.
The receptor, SR-BI, binds to HDL with high affinity, is expressed primarily in liver and nonplacental steroidogenic tissues (ovaries, adrenals, and testes), and mediates selective cholesterol uptake by a different mechanism than that used by the LDL receptor pathway. ...
