Rockefeller University researchers, reporting in Science, showed by genetic mapping and genomic analysis that the mouse db gene, the rat fatty gene (a homolog of db) and the gene encoding the obesity receptor (OB-R) are the same.

The human homolog of the gene for OB-R is likely to reside on chromosome 1p31, they said. Further work on the precise mechanisms by which mutations in these genes produce the loss of function of OB-R remains to be done, in order to understand how mutations and allelic variations affect the regulation of body fat in humans. ...
