Middlesex researchers reported in Nature that they have found that a mutation to the CLCN5 gene, which encodes a protein that functions as a renal chloride channel, may be responsible for three inherited kidney stone diseases: Dent's disease, X-linked recessive nephrolithiasis, and X-linked recessive hypophosphatemic rickets.
