Spectra reported at the Nature Genetics conference in Vancouver that certain food allergies, heart disease with high blood pressure, osteoporosis, thyroid disorders, and osteoarthritis may constitute a genetically related disorder, C3F syndrome, in which tissue injury may result from subtle cumulative immunologically mediated inflammation.
Individuals with the C3F variant had a higher incidence of non-rheumatoid arthritis versus individuals without the variant (p=0.004), a higher incidence of thyroid disease (p=0.03), hypertension with coronary heart disease (p=0.01), and food allergies (p=0.0001). ...
