CMS suspends bidding for CAP

CMS suspended the vendor bidding process for the competitive acquisition program (CAP) for Medicare Part B drugs to more fully review public comments and to clarify the bidding process. The comment period ends Sept 6. Under the CAP, which was mandated in the Medicare Modernization Act, physicians order drugs from vendors who bill Medicare and collect coinsurance or deductibles from patients. Physicians who do not participate in the program can purchase drugs directly from drug suppliers and be paid 106% of the manufacturers' average sales price (ASP) by Medicare. ...
