Researchers report link between MLV-related viruses and CFS

Researchers at FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research and colleagues reported data from an analysis of peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC)-derived DNA samples from 37 patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and 44 healthy volunteers. The analysis showed that DNA samples from 32 of 37 patients contained murine leukemia virus (MLV)-related virus gene sequences compared to only 3 of 44 healthy volunteers. MLV is a member of a family of retroviruses known to cause cancer in mice. Data were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. ...
