HHS, NIH appeal stem cell ruling, ask for stay

HHS and NIH asked a district court judge to stay last week's ruling that prohibited the use of federal funds for human embryonic stem cell (hESC) research while the agencies appeal the decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The defendants said in a memorandum that a stay of Judge Royce Lamberth's preliminary injunction would "avoid terminating research projects midstream, invalidating results in process, and impeding or negating years of scientific progress." ...
