Why Alkahest thinks plasma factors are key to fighting age-related diseases
Alkahest Inc. is identifying factors in human plasma that could serve as therapeutics or novel targets used to treat age-related conditions, including Alzheimer's disease.
The newco's work stems from the lab of co-founder Tony Wyss-Coray, a Stanford University professor of neurology who demonstrated that injecting plasma from old mice into young mice impaired spatial learning and memory and decreased neurogenesis. Those data were reported in Nature in 2011.
In the same paper, Wyss-Coray and colleagues identified six plasma factors, including chemokine CC
