Shire, Baxalta quiet on deal talks

Shire plc (LSE:SHP; NASDAQ:SHPG) declined to comment on media reports it is making progress in M&A talks with Baxalta Inc. (NYSE:BXLT). Baxalta did not respond to inquiries.

Baxalta rejected an unsolicited $30 billion bid from Shire in July, saying that the all-stock deal "significantly understates Baxalta's true value." Media reports have suggested Shire is now preparing a larger offer that includes cash (see BioCentury, Aug. 10). ...
