Biocon building first biomanufacturing capacity outside of India, in Malaysia

Lured by tax incentives, infrastructure support and a proximity to Singapore, Biocon Ltd. has moved to open its first manufacturing facility outside of India at a new biotechnology park in southern Malaysia. The deal is already having an impact on Biocon's commercial strategy.

Founded in 1978 as an industrial enzyme producer and exporter, in the mid-1990s Biocon put its expertise in large-scale fermentation processes to use first by diversifying into manufacturing pharmaceutical ingredients and products and then by moving into biologics(see "Biocon's Value-Chain Migration"). ...
