Bloodied Aclara says it's not beaten

Aclara BioSciences Inc. may have taken blows in its trade secret litigation and separate patent infringement suit with Caliper Technologies Corp. But regardless of the eventual outcome of the litigation, ACLA believes it will not be left without a business.

Last week, a California Superior Court jury awarded $52.6 million to CALP in a 1999 lawsuit in which the company charged that its trade secrets had been used by ACLA to apply for U.S. Patent No. 5,750,015 covering methods and devices for moving molecules via the application of electric fields (see BioCentury Extra, Monday Oct. 30). ...
