Mouse studies suggest IGF1R inhibitors could help treat AD. In a mouse model of AD, conditional knockout of IGF1R in the brain decreased the number of Aβ-containing autophagic vacuoles in neurons and amyloid plaque pathology in the brain and increased plasma levels of soluble Aβ and performance in memory tests compared with normal IGF1R expression.
