Horizon and collaborators are developing better CHO cells for biomanufacturing

CHO cells are a key tool used throughout the industry, from cell-based studies in basic research to commercial-scale production of biologics, but until the cell line's full genome was published in 2013, manipulation of the cells relied on random mutagenesis.
Taking advantage of the full CHO genomic sequence, Horizon Discovery Group plc wants to use gene editing to produce directed changes in CHO cells, and has received a £1.7 million ($2.6 million) grant to develop an improved biomanufacturing platform together with the U.K.'s Centre for Process Innovation and the University of Manchester. ...
