Mouse studies suggest M-type potassium channel openers could improve recovery following stroke. In mouse photothrombotic and middle cerebral artery occlusion models of stroke, treatment with different M-type channel openers including Trobalt retigabine up to 6 hours after stroke decreased infarct size compared with no treatment.
