Atossa Genetics, Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation deal

Atossa acquired patent rights from the foundation to develop and commercialize a biomarker test that examines carbohydrates contained in nipple aspirate fluid using a sensitive detection reagent. Atossa plans to conduct clinical research to determine if the fluid-based biomarker test can form the basis for a clinical screening test for breast cancer, but has not disclosed details. The company said that the test showed potential in a pilot study in 28 women conducted by the University of California (San Francisco, Calif.), in which the test was positive in all 12 women who had known breast cancer.
