Baxter sales and marketing update

Baxter will replace bags of Dianeal, Extraneal and Nutrineal peritoneal dialysis solutions in the EU as newly produced solutions are made available. The company discovered during routine inspection that two production tanks used at its manufacturing plant in Ireland had microscopic cracks where endotoxin-producing bacteria had settled. In December, the European Medicines Agency's CHMP recommended that all bags suspected to be affected should be replaced. The CHMP also recommended that patients continue their therapy and physicians determine the risks and benefits of the continued use of potentially affected solutions. Baxter expects to replace the products of concern by March. The solutions are used in patients who have to undergo peritoneal dialysis due to kidney failure. ...
