Micrologix said its peptide antibiotic showed positive effect in controlling systemic infections in early animal studies. Mice were infected by injection into the abdominal cavity with lethal levels of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or S. epidermidis. In one study, mice infected with MRSA were given doses of the peptide intravenously 10 minutes prior to infection to 10 minutes post-infection. All mice from the control group died 6-8 hours after infection. Treated mice survived up to 12 hours after infection. ...
