Marimastat oral matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor data

BBIOY presented positive data from Phase II studies at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Philadelphia, confirming interim results presented last November. The company reported data on 232 patients with colorectal, ovarian, pancreatic and prostate cancers who completed an initial 28 days of dosing.

Patients received doses of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 75 mg twice a day, and 5, 10 and 25 mg once a day. The optimum dose was 10 mg twice a day. At that dose, 56 percent of patients showed a biological effect or partial biological effect. The former was defined as an absolute fall or no rise in cancer antigen concentrations, while the latter was defined as a rise in cancer antigen levels of <25 percent. ...
