Genzyme Tissue sales and marketing update

GENZL said first quarter sales of its Carticel cartilage cell culturing service increased modestly in the quarter ended March 31, but said trends for increased volume were apparent.

The company completed 46 procedures using Carticel, up 5 percent from the fourth quarter. GENZL also received 287 biopsies to be cultured, a 70 percent increase over the fourth quarter. The company also trained 287 orthopedic surgeons in the quarter, bringing to 540 the total number of surgeons trained in the procedure, and has 298 more surgeons scheduled for training. ...
