Chiron deal
CHIR, Ciba-Geigy (Basel) and New York University will collaborate for three years to develop a technology for the optical mapping and sequencing of genes. CHIR received an exclusive worldwide license to the technology, which was developed at NYU, and has the rights to sub-license and commercialize resulting products, in exchange for an undisclosed upfront payment, and royalty and milestone payments. CHIR (Emeryville, Calif.) sub-licensed the technology to Ciba for research purposes.
The technology involves selective cutting of DNA and gene sequences into defined lengths, creating a pattern that helps characterize genomes and identify unique individual genes.
