Roche scientists (Nutley, N.J.) and collaborators published animal data showing that IL-12 blocks angiogenesis of corneal blood vessels. This newly discovered action of the cytokine appears to be mediated by release of gamma interferon.
As reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, corneal angiogenesis was induced in mice. Daily intraperitoneal injections of IL-12 for five days inhibited the angiogenesis. IL-12's effect was prevented by administration of antibodies to gamma interferon, suggesting that the suppression is mediated through the interferon. ...
