Oral chicken type II collagen data

Results of a Phase II trial in 60 patients fed either chicken type II collagen or a placebo showed 25 to 30 percent improvement on measures of rheumatoid arthritis, with four cases of remission in the treated group, and none in the placebo group.
As reported in Science, 28 patients given 0.1 mg of solubilized collagen daily for one month, and then 0.5 mg for the next two months, showed a significant improvement (p < 0.05) in the number of swollen, tender, or painful joints, and walk time, relative to 31 control patients. All but one of the study patients were evaluable. Four patients on placebo withdrew from the trial, but four others exhibited substantial benefit, which the researchers attributed to a placebo effect. ...
