DAF down-regulates human complement activation to prevent xenograft hyperacute rejection of the pig organs.
The privately held company has bred 37 live transgenic pigs since December. Before human transplants can begin, the transgenic pigs will be cross-bred with other transgenic swine to produce pure-bred DAF pigs with a second gene responsible for membrane cofactor protein, and perhaps another protective gene. ...
