The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office upheld two amended patents from StemCells (U.S. Patents Nos. 5,851,832 and 6,497,872), the original versions of which were rejected by the PTO last September in an ex parte reexamination requested by Neuralstem. Two other patents the PTO initially rejected last September are still in the reexamination process. The four patents cover methods for proliferating neural stem and progenitor cells and for using these cells as transplantation therapeutics. ...
