The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office confirmed PharmaStem’s U.S. Patents Nos. 6,461,645; 5,004,681; 5,192,553; and 6,569,427, which cover the collection, cryopreservation and storage of hematopoietic stem cells from umbilical cord blood. ThermoGenesis Corp. (KOOL; Rancho Cordova, Calif.) and the International NetCord Foundation requested that the U.S. PTO reexamine the four patents in June 2004 after the European Patent Office revoked two of PharmaStem’s equivalent European patents. ...
