NIH to create translational center

NIH Director Francis Collins Tuesday indicated that he will accept a recommendation from an advisory committee to create the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). NIH's Scientific Management Review Board recommended locating NIH programs with annual budgets of about $700 million in the new center, as well as the Cures Acceleration Network that Congress authorized in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act but has not funded. Components in the new center will include NIH's Therapeutics for Rare and Neglected Diseases and Clinical and Translational Science Awards programs. ...
