A consortium led by Videregen was awarded almost £2 million ($3.1 million) from the U.K.'s Technology Strategy Board through its regenerative medicine and cell therapy competition to develop Videregen's stem cell-based trachea replacement technology to treat severe structural airway disease (SSAD). The consortium will use the funds to develop and conduct early clinical trials of a clinical prototype. Videregen said it will be responsible for development and commercialization of the product and that IP generated under the consortium will belong to Videregen or will be exclusively licensed to it. The company said clinical testing of the product is slated to begin in 4Q14. The consortium has a total budget of £2.4 million ($3.7 million), though Videregen said it is seeking additional funding. ...
