Researchers at Roche reported that TNF receptor fusion protein can block an asthmatic reaction in rats and guinea pigs. This demonstrated for the first time that TNF is a major cause of allergic lung inflammation.
As published in The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Ro 45-2081 blocked the enhanced airway reactivity to substance P at eight hours after antigen challenge (p<0.05). Accumulation of neutrophils and total cells in the fluid from the bronchi and alveoli also was reduced in a dose-dependent manner (p<0.05). ...
