Alpha-Beta preclinical data

ABTI announced that an animal study showed the protective action of Betafectin in a guinea pig model of Staph infection. The agent is nearing completion of Phase III testing to prevent infection in gastrointestinal surgery. Reporting at the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, the researchers used strains of S. aureus and S. epidermidis that were either resistant or sensitive to existing antibiotics.

Guinea pigs were dosed with the PGG-glucan carobohydrate the day before, the day of, and the day after inoculation with the bacteria. The regimen is the same as that used in the company's ongoing Phase III trial. Cultures on the third day after inoculation were taken to determine the incidence of infection. ...
