NIAMS researchers published research in Nature Genetics detailing the localization of six distinct genetic regions that control arthritis in a rat model. In rats with collagen-induced arthritis, as in humans, major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes are known to be involved in determining the susceptibility to arthritis in some, but not all, individuals.
