University researchers have found CMV genes that remain active in latent infections of CMV. Those genes could form the basis of a test to detect if donated organs or tissues harbor the virus, which is potentially fatal to immuno-compromised recipients. The gene discovery, published in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, also could lead to design of a vaccine for the infection. ...
