Canadian researchers supported by IAF BioVac Inc., BCHXF's vaccine subsidiary, reported the discovery of a protein that appears to have potential for the development of a vaccine effective against all groups of meningococcal bacteria, including group B.

Results presented at the American Society for Microbiology meeting in New Orleans showed that the protein is present in all meningococcal strains, including group B, which accounts for up to 50 percent of all reported cases of meningococcal disease in North America and for which no vaccine exists. The protein is exposed at the surface of the bacteria, making it a good vaccine candidate, BCHXF said. ...
