Thrombopoietin data

University researchers presented data from Phase I studies showing safety and preliminary ability of TPO to boost platelets in patients undergoing chemotherapy. As detailed at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Philadelphia, patients in two Phase I studies began with a 21-day prechemotherapy period for assessment of TPO safety and platelet response after a single iv bolus injection of 0.3, 0.6 or 1.2 µg/kg of compound (3 patients per group).

In 14 patients treated to date, TPO was well tolerated with no serious adverse events. At the 0.3 µg/kg dose (n=7), mean baseline platelets were 339,000 and median maximum platelets were 510,000, a median increase of 40 percent. At the 0.6 µg/kg dose, platelets rose from 235,000 to 486,000 (103 percent). At the 1.2 µg/kg dose, platelets rose from 203,000 to 523,000 (158 percent). ...
