Colorado State University researchers reported on a novel approach to limiting insect transmission of viral diseases. As detailed in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, they took key genetic sequences from LaCrosse virus, an insect-borne virus that causes encephalitis in children, and placed them in a Sindbis virus expression system.
