CBCX scientists reported that preclinical studies with beagles co-infected with two tick-borne pathogenic bacteria that cause Lyme disease and HGE suffered a significant drop (35 percent) in neutrophil levels compared with animals infected with either pathogen alone who maintained normal neutrophil counts.

The data, presented at the meeting of the American Society for Rickettsiology and Rickettsial Diseases, indicate that co-infection with both Lyme and HGE bacteria may place people at greater risk of serious, life-threatening consequences, CBCX said. ...
