University researchers reported in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that transgenic mice with pancreatic tumors given three anti-angiogenic compounds showed a reduction in tumor volume of 89 percent. Capillary density was reduced to 40 percent that of control animals, and apoptosis doubled, probably due to inadequate access of the tumor cells to serum factors or oxygen.
Mice were given AGM-1470 (Takeda Chemical Co., Osaka, Japan), the antibiotic minocycline, and interferon a/b. Tumor cells were killed indirectly, by restricting tumor growth. ...
