Chromos researchers published in Chromosome Research two papers detailing the engineering of functional, stable, satellite DNA-based mammalian artificial chromosomes (SATACs). They also published that they are able to produce useful quantities of 3-5 million SATACs per day at levels of purity exceeding 99 percent.
The researchers reported that the formation of chromosomes occurs by the amplification of large blocks of DNA via a higher-order DNA replication unit, or megareplicon, that resides in the centromeric region of the chromosome. ...
