Test to identify carriers of the BRCA1 gene data

Members of families with hereditary breast-ovarian cancer linked to the BCRA1 gene were not universally inclined to request testing for the gene mutation when such examinations were made available, according to researchers reporting in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Of 279 participants in the prospective cohort trial, 192 completed a baseline interview to assess predictor variables such as knowledge of hereditary cancer. Of the 192, 60 percent requested the results of the test (43 percent of all study subjects). ...
