Altus, a subsidiary of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. (VRTX, Cambridge, Mass.), received a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to develop high performance catalysts to detoxify nerve agents using CLEC technology.

The organophosphorous compounds targeted by the work include those commonly found in pesticides, environmental pollutants and chemical weapons. Altus will work in partnership with researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and Texas A&M University toward converting the compounds into benign substances for disposal. ...
