University researchers associated with Ontogeny described how the Indian hedgehog molecule controls cartilage and bone development in developing embryos. The gene is one of three members of a family of developmental inducing molecules. Each is being considered as a therapeutic tool by the company.
As reported in Science, over-expression of the gene prevents cartilage cells from becoming the precursors of bone, and thereby delays the process of mineralization and migration of blood vessels that turns cartilage into bone. ...
