Oral transmucosal delivery of glucagon-like peptide 1 data

A report in Diabetes Care showed that therapeutic levels of the peptide and decreased blood glucose were achieved through delivery of GLP-1 with tablets placed between the gum and lip or cheek. The Swedish study in eight volunteers used THRT's enhanced oral transmucosal delivery system.
Peak plasma levels of GLP-1, at 30 minutes after placement, were 16 times baseline levels and in the therapeutic range. Plasma insulin rose in response to the elevated GLP-1 levels, causing lowered blood glucose and glucagon. This action was almost identical to that of the peptide given subcutaneously by injection in other studies. ...
