In a porcine wound healing model, XenoDerm grafts provided a suitable matrix for the engraftment of cultured epidermal autografts to generate a reconstituted skin.

XenoDerm combined with cultured epidermal autografts created a reconstituted skin as early as 7-14 days after grafting, which had features of mature normal skin, LIFC said. Immunostaining was positive for laminin and collagen types IV and VII in the basement membrane zone. Electron microscopy showed a continuous basement membrane with hemidesmosomes, lamina lucida, lamina densa and some anchoring fibrils.
