XOMA reported that two peptides derived from BPI were effective against infection in mice inoculated with C. albicans. The derivatives XMP.97 and XMP.127 gave significant antifungal response compared to saline (p<0.02 and p<0.05 respectively).
The XMP.97 derivative is inactivated in serum in four hours, but nevertheless was effective. The company is attempting to stabilize the peptides against proteolysis (protein splitting) to increase efficacy. ...
