U.S. Senate regulatory update

The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Biotechnology Patent Protection Act of 1995. Sen. Orin Hatch, R-Utah, sponsored the bill, which would extend patent protection to biotechnology processes if there is a patentable starting product. He noted that "under the current Patent Code, an inventor may hold a patent and still be unable to bar the importation of a product made abroad with the use of the patented material, if the inventor has been unable to obtain patent protection for the process of using such material." ...
