Research at Allegheny-Singer Research Institute (Medical College of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh) has confirmed the concept of hCG as a cancer marker, and as a possible avenue for cancer control.

As reported in Cancer, mRNA for hCG was found in both fetal cells and in tumor cells from a variety of cancers, including carcinomas, sarcomas, and malignant lymphomas.
