Research to be presented today at the meeting of the Society of Neuroscience in San Diego, and to be published in Nature on Nov. 23, shows that a newly identified protein binds to the mutated gene product in Huntington's disease, at least in the yeast two-hybrid screen used.

It is as yet unknown if the binding takes place in the brains of affected people. However, the fact that the protein is only expressed in brain could explain why only brain cells are killed in the disease. ...
