A multinational team of scientists published cloning of a gene and its protein product that is implicated in an inherited form of early-onset FAD.

The AD3 gene, on chromosome 14q24.3, is associated with an aggressive form of the disease that begins early, at ages 30 to 60 years. The gene may account for about 7 percent of all Alzheimer's cases. The minimal cosegregating region of the gene was defined, and at least 19 different transcripts encoded in this region were isolated, as reported in Nature. ...
