University of Chicago researchers reported that gene therapy using the retinoblastoma gene worked in two animal models of restenosis.
As described in Science, the rat carotid artery and the pig femoral artery have served as model systems to study balloon angioplasty. Localized infection of both with the virus bearing the Rb gene significantly reduced smooth muscle proliferation (42 percent decrease, p<0.001 in the rat; 47 percent decrease, p<0.003 for the pig). ...
