Perkin-Elmer will provide automated genetic analysis technology, TIGR (Gaithersburg, Md.) will contribute gene sequencing and bioinformatics expertise, and CalTech and CEPH will conduct the mapping.

Current genome maps provide primarily the locations of non-gene DNA sequences that serve as landmarks. Adding the locations of genes themselves to the maps should speed the search for genes that cause specific diseases, Perkin-Elmer said.
